The Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Mining, through the National Fisheries Authority (NFA), has taken decisive action to support fishers in Alligator Pond who were severely impacted by Hurricane Melissa. In a recent distribution effort on Friday, November 14 in Alligator Pond, Manchester, 35 local fishers received essential fishing gear, including 59 rolls of mesh wire, to aid in the restoration of their livelihoods.

The supplies arrived in Jamaica from Florida, United States, on Tuesday, November 11, through a strategic partnership between the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Mining’s Agro-Investment Corporation and Broward County, with support from the Florida Panthers Sports Foundation, Experience Aviation, and other U.S.-based and diaspora partners. The Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Mining, through the Agro-Investment Corporation (Agro-Invest), in partnership with the Broward County Board of County Commissioners in Florida, has carried out a coordinated relief effort to support Jamaica’s agricultural communities severely affected by Hurricane Melissa.
