$50-million support for banana and plantain farmers

The Ministry of Agriculture and Fisheries will be providing an immediate support of $50 million in input relief, through The Banana Board, to banana and plantain farmers in Portland and St. Mary.

This announcement was made by Minister of Agriculture and Fisheries, Floyd Green, at a virtual media briefing held at the Ministry’s Hope Gardens offices on August 25.

The Ministry of Agriculture and Fisheries is reminding farmers and fishers that they are a part of the essential services that remain operational under the new curfew orders, which will take effect on Sunday, August 22.

KINGSTON, August 26 (JIS):

The Ministry of Agriculture and Fisheries is providing $50 million to support banana and plantain farmers who were impacted by the recent passage of Tropical Storm Grace.

Making the announcement during a virtual press conference on Wednesday (August 25), Portfolio Minister, Hon. Floyd Green, said the $50 million will be disbursed through the Banana Board.

He said the funding support will assist the banana and plantain farmers “to get back on their feet”.
