Accounting, as it does, for some 11.5 per cent of the country’s financial assets, the Hon Audley Shaw, Minister of Industry, Commerce, Agriculture and Fisheries, has described the insurance industry as an excellent avenue for economic growth.

The National Certification Body of Jamaica (NCBJ) has recognised the work of its quality professionals in ensuring the delivery of quality standards in the marketplace.

These professions, including auditors and technical experts, who have served the NCBJ from its inception in 2007, were honoured at a special luncheon held on Thursday (Nov. 28), at the Spanish Court Hotel in St. Andrew.

The Cannabis Licensing Authority (CLA) is exploring the establishment of a transitional permit to facilitate the ease in which small farmers can enter the medicinal cannabis industry.

Speaking at a JIS Studio 58A session on November 28, Director of Enforcement and Monitoring at the CLA, Faith Graham said this is one the initiatives being finalised to increase the number of small farmers operating in the industry.

She noted that the transitional permit will allow farmers an 18-month period where they can begin operating in the industry, without the full licence.
