Ban on imported Romaine lettuce still in place

In the wake of the recent outbreak of E.coli in the United States affecting Romaine lettuce, the Plant Quarantine and Produce Inspection Branch of the Ministry of Industry, Commerce, Agriculture, and Fisheries is reminding consumers and traders that the ban on imported Romaine lettuce, which was imposed in November 2018 is still in effect and has not been lifted.
No Romaine lettuce is, therefore, currently being imported into the island. Other varieties and locally grown lettuce are safe to consume.

LPG stakeholders urged to adhere to standards set for the industry

Acting Director of Commerce in the Ministry of Industry, Commerce, Agriculture and Fisheries, Margaritta Sherwood, is urging stakeholders in the liquefied petroleum gas industry to adhere to the standards which are set for the industry.

She noted that in order to ensure the health and safety of the consuming public they must be aware of the requirements and be in compliance with the three standards, which have been developed for the sector by the Bureau of Standards Jamaica and the National Compliance and Regulatory Authority.

Gov’t Moving to Make Front of Package Labeling Mandatory

The Bureau of Standards Jamaica (BSJ) is carrying out assessments to determine the food labelling model that will work best for the country, as the Government moves closer to making front of package labelling mandatory in Jamaica.
