The Ministry of Agriculture & Fisheries joins the world in commemorating International Day of Plant Health 2023 under the theme “Plant Health for Environmental Protection”.
The Ministry of Agriculture & Fisheries through the Plant Quarantine Produce Inspection Branch joins with the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO), and The International Plant Protection Convention (IPPC) secretariat in recognizing and celebrating this significant day of International Day of Plant Health (IDPH) on May 12, 2023.
The International Day of Plant Health 2023 calls on everyone to raise awareness and take action to keep our plants healthy and help protect the environment and biodiversity and with Jamaica being a signatory to IPPC this is only a befitting mantra.
For this year’s celebrations of IDPH 2023 the IPPC has launched a video on its website highlighting the importance of plants and the many benefits which is being commemorated under the theme: “Plant Health for Environmental Protection”.
A healthy plant ecosystem is vital to the thriving of all life on our planet. The importance of plant health cannot be overstated as we depend on them for 80 percent of the food we eat and 98 percent of the oxygen we breathe .
Let us continue to build healthy plant systems that can help to end hunger, reduce poverty, protect the environment, and boost economic development.
