Portland-based banana and plantain farmer, Winsome Crosdale Delaney, is lauding the Banana Board for the invaluable support provided in enabling her to boost production. Speaking to JIS News in a recent interview, she said over the past 12 years, the Board has provided technical assistance through scientific research conducted on her farm.
“This has really assisted me to increase my banana and plantain production. They have also provided extension officers who are actually hands-on,” she noted. Mrs. Crosdale Delaney told JIS News that she has also benefited from training sessions and continued sound advice.
“They have also educated me and provided me with information on the TR4 disease as well as provided training and assistance in the control of the black sigatoka disease, which we had in previous years,” she added.
“The Banana Board, through the Ministry of Agriculture and Fisheries, has assisted me immensely and other farmers in Portland, and they continue to provide these services and I really want to thank them and express my appreciation to them,” she said.
Established under the Banana Board Act of 1953, the Banana Board is a statutory body with responsibility to boost the commercial viability of the island’s banana and plantain industry.
