Agriculture Ministry to Partner with Private Sector to Get More Farmers Insured

Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Mining, Hon. Floyd Green, says the Ministry will be partnering with the private sector to get more farmers insured.

“Part of what we are doing in partnering with the private sector is to ensure that in times of drought [or] flood, you don’t have to look to the Government to provide that response; you can put down something for the proverbial rainy day,” he said.

Farmers Urged to Utilise Services Provided by Extension Officers

Farmers are being strongly encouraged to get to know and utilise the relevant Extension Officers assigned to their Divisions by the Rural Agricultural Development Authority (RADA), to better their operations and to receive support.

Major Agro-Economic Zone Coming for South St. James

RADA Providing Input Supplies to St. Thomas Farmers

St. Thomas farmers who suffered loss or damage from recent heavy rains are receiving essential inputs and supplies through the Rural Agricultural Development Authority (RADA) Parish Office.

Acting Parish Manager, Errard Stephenson, said that in recent weeks, the entity has distributed more than 589 bags of Irish potato seedlings to farmers in all six extension areas.

1000 Goats Imported to Boost Local Stock

Over 1000 goats have been imported into the island since April of last year under the National Small Ruminant Development Programme.

Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Mining, Hon. Floyd Green, made the disclosure during the Hanover leg of the New FACE of Food engagement session at the Grand Palladium Resort in the parish on Thursday (January 18).

Farmers Urged to Form Groups

Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Mining, Hon. Floyd Green, is advising farmers in South St. James to form groups to improve access to support and services being provided by the Government.
