Minister of State in the Ministry of Agriculture and Fisheries, Franklin Witter (left), views a sample of Varroa Mites shown by Hugh Smith, Chief Plant Protection Officer, Apiculture Unit, Research & Development Division in the Ministry of Agriculture and Fisheries. Varroa  Mites are parasites that attack  adult honey bees and honey bee brood, weakening and destroying the bee colony. The occasion was the World Bee Day celebrations held at the Ministry’s Hope Gardens Complex on Friday, May 20, 2022. 

Witter announces $10 million subsidy for beekeeping industry

Minister of State in the Ministry of Agriculture and Fisheries, Franklin Witter, has announced that the beekeeping industry will receive a subsidy of $10 million for the purchasing of sugar as feed for their bee colonies.
