Agriculture Ministry targets schools for increased milk production

The Ministry of Agriculture and Fisheries, through the Jamaica Dairy Development Board (JDDB), is targeting seven agricultural education institutions for increased milk production.

Amnesty bins have been installed at both international airports, as part of efforts to prevent plant and animal diseases from entering the island.

The Plant Quarantine and Inspection Branch in the Ministry of Agriculture and Fisheries is reminding all travellers that a permit is required to import plants and plant products into Jamaica.

Ministry working to address banking challenges impacting medical cannabis

The Ministry of Industry, Commerce, Agriculture and Fisheries is engaging international stakeholders to address the banking difficulties that have been impacting Jamaica’s medical cannabis industry.

Project Manager of the White River Fish Sanctuary, in St. Ann, Reanne McKenzie, says the entity has planted more than 2,700 pieces of coral over the past three years, to restore the reef and increase the fish population.

Speaking to JIS News in a recent interview, Ms. McKenzie said the figure represents more than half the target of 5,000 pieces of coral to be planted in five years across the 150-hectare special fishery conservation area.
