FAO Providing Support On National School-Feeding Programme

Minister of Industry, Commerce, Agriculture and Fisheries, Hon. Audley Shaw, says that the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) of the United Nations is providing assistance to the Government on the national school-feeding programme.

National Irrigation Commission Gives Scholarships And Grants To Students

Ten students attending secondary and tertiary educational institutions have received scholarships and grants from the National Irrigation Commission (NIC), valued at more than $1 million.

The recipients, who are children of employees at the NIC, received the awards at a ceremony held on January 30 at the Four Seasons Hotel in St. Andrew.

Jamaicans Encouraged To Protect Rich Biodiversity

The Ministry of Industry, Commerce, Agriculture and Fisheries, is calling on more Jamaicans to preserve the rich biodiversity that exists, given the impact Climate Change is having on natural resources.

Jamaica’s terrestrial biodiversity is characterised by over 3,304 vascular plant species; approximately 600 species of ferns; 136 species of butterflies and 106 known bird species that are only found on the island, which are all under threat due to human activities and climate change.

Noted Businessman To Invest In Mega Farm In St. Catherine

Minister of Industry, Commerce, Agriculture and Fisheries, Hon. Audley Shaw, has disclosed that a group headed by business mogul, Michael Lee-Chin, is investing in a major agricultural project in St. Catherine.

According to Minister Shaw, the mega farm, to be established on lands formerly occupied by Innswood Sugar Estates, will have mango and soursop orchards, cantaloupes, melons, and short- and long-term crops.
