Minister Shaw wants to see more Mexican investments in Jamaica

Minister of Industry, Commerce, Agriculture and Fisheries, Hon. Audley Shaw, says that he would like to see more Mexican investments in Jamaica.

“We have had several investments in the hotel industry. Now, we really have to look at other sectors and opportunities where we can increase investments, not only in the hotel industry, but other areas”, Minister Shaw said.

The Minister was speaking during a courtesy call with newly appointed Mexican Ambassador to Jamaica, His Excellency, Juan José González Mijares, at the Ministry’s New Kingston offices, on Thursday, May 31....

Hutchinson proposes restitution for victims of praedial larceny

Minister without Portfolio in the Ministry of Industry, Commerce, Agriculture and Fisheries, the Hon J.C. Hutchinson, has reiterated his proposal for a revision of the Agricultural Produce Act to include restitution for farmers who are victims of praedial larceny.
Speaking at the launch of a farmers’ watch in Wait-A-Bit, Trelawny, Minister Hutchinson lamented the low fines levied on praedial thieves by the court compared to the cost of the goods stolen and said that what is being proposed is that in addition to the sentence fine, the thief will also pay an amount equal to the value...

Shaw encourages young people to become entrepreneurs

Minister of Industry, Commerce, Agriculture and Fisheries, the Hon Audley Shaw, is encouraging young people to avoid negative influences and to pursue a path of decency and honesty by establishing their own businesses.
Addressing members of the 2018 graduating class of the Knockalava Agricultural School on June 1, Minister Shaw lamented the fact that the standards within the country have fallen and urged the students to beware of bad company and focus on the positive things.
