Minister Shaw commends Irish potato farmers

Manchester farmers produced 70% of the Irish potatoes reaped in Jamaica for the 2017-2018 season which have earned them the praises of Industry, Commerce, Agriculture and Fisheries Minister, Hon. Audley Shaw, who addressed them at the National Irish Potato Stakeholders’ Seminar in Devon, Manchester, on April 26.
For the July 2017-September 2018 season, some 900 hectares of Irish potato have been planted and 14 million lbs. harvested to date.

Shaw urges 4-H clubbites to pursue excellence

Minister of Industry, Commerce, Agriculture and Fisheries, the Hon. Audley Shaw, is urging the country’s over 104,000 4-H Club members to pursue excellence and to make a difference in all they do.
“Don’t let anybody tamper with your ambition,” the Minister told the young people, as he addressed them at the Jamaica 4-H Clubs National Achievement Expo held Friday, April 27 at the Denbigh Showground in Clarendon.

Great opportunities for Jamaica’s horticultural industry- Minister Shaw

Industry, Commerce, Agriculture and Fisheries Minister, Hon. Audley Shaw says that there are tremendous opportunities to be gained from the horticultural industry in Jamaica.

According to Minister Shaw Jamaica has the potential to turn the horticultural industry and flowers into a great export commodity.

“We must seek to isolate a number of our flowers that are unique to Jamaica and turn them into an industrial export commodity so that we can really create jobs, earn some great profit and also some well needed foreign exchange”, the Minister stated.
