Meeting with Farmers of Westmoreland

Government to Launch Campaign Against Illicit Cane Burning

In an effort to stem the significant loss in income resulting from the burning of approximately 1,001 hectares of sugar cane since the start of 2017, Government will be launching a public education campaign aimed at highlighting the importance of protecting the sugar cane industry.

No Evidence of Plastic in Rice Samples Submitted by MP

Minister of Industry, Commerce, Agriculture and Fisheries, Hon. Karl Samuda says there is no indication of contamination in the samples of rice submitted by Member of Parliament for South East St. Ann, Lisa Hanna earlier this week.
Ms. Hanna submitted separate samples of cooked and uncooked rice to the National Compliance and Regulatory Authority (NCRA) on Wednesday, January 11 and Thursday, January 12.

Agriministry Gets Seed Production Boost From CARDI

The seed production capacity of the Ministry of Industry, Commerce, Agriculture and Fisheries (MICAF), which is operated at its facility at the Bodles Research Station in Old Harbour, was today (Wednesday, January 11) given a boost with the provision of equipment and materials valued at some $2.5 million.
