Minard Livestock Show a Plus for Agriculture – Samuda

Minister of Industry, Commerce, Agriculture and Fisheries, Hon. Karl Samuda, has described the annual Minard Livestock Show and Beef Festival in Brown’s Town, St. Ann, as a clear demonstration that agriculture is alive and well in Jamaica.
Addressing the 17th staging of the event on November 10, the Minister noted that agriculture sometimes finds itself on the ‘back burner’ of “our society’s psyche”, making events like the Minard festival “a timely reminder” of the importance of the sector.

Goat and Sheep Farmers Urged to Boost Meat Production

Goat and sheep farmers are being urged to take steps to increase the production of meat.to satisfy the high demand of distributors, who are being encouraged to support local production instead of importing, according to Acting Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Industry, Commerce, Agriculture and Fisheries, Reginald Budhan.
Mr. Budhan said data provided by the Health Ministry’s Veterinary Public Health Division, showed that the production of goat and sheep meat fell from just over 963,000 kilograms in 2013 to 751,625 kilograms in 2014.
