Organic farming and food security will be the focus of this year’s symposium at the Denbigh Agricultural, Industrial and Food Show.
The event will be hosted by Jamaica Diaspora Agriculture Task Force (JDATF) in partnership with the Jamaica Agricultural Society (JAS).

NEW INVESTORS BEING SOUGHT FOR LONG POND

Talks are underway with potential new investors in the operations at the Long Pond Sugar Factory in Clark’s Town, Trelawny.

GOV’T TACKLING SALE OF IMPORTED REFINED SUGAR IN RETAIL TRADE

The Government will be moving to tackle the problem of imported refined sugar for use in the manufacturing sector, which ends up in the retail trade.
According to Minister of Industry, Commerce, Agriculture and Fisheries, Hon. Karl Samuda: “You cannot have sugar being produced…brought back having been refined and then you have manufacturers, who use that refined sugar as raw material, and get duty concession, selling it in the retail trade at enormous profit. Major Investment at Hounslow Agro Park

A major conglomerate will be investing in more than 200 acres of land for the production of hot peppers at the Hounslow Agro Park, in St. Elizabeth.
Making the disclosure, Minister of Industry, Commerce, Agriculture and Fisheries, Hon. Karl Samuda, said the company will provide the farmers on the land with all the planting material and fertiliser.
