Surveillance

The Pest Risk Analysis team is also involved in the surveillance of plant life and plant production areas in Jamaica. Our involvement in pest control is primarily focused on mitigating the introduction and spread of exotic pests. Priority is given to quarantine pests that may enter Jamaica and the development of programmes to mitigate their introduction. Additionally we conduct surveys to identify the distribution patterns of known pests and institute control management programmes. Findings from these surveys are integrated in the certification of pest-free areas and plant products for domestic and export trade.
