Agricultural stalwart, Mr. Albert Fearon

 15 Jun 2023
The Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Mining mourns the untimely passing of agricultural stalwart and true son of the soil, Mr. Albert Fearon.

Invaluable, knowledgeable and esteemed are three words to describe the animal nutritionist and livestock specialist, who served the Jamaican agricultural industry and the wider Caribbean for over 40 years, having entered the field as a teacher of agricultural science and later as a member of the Caribbean Agricultural Research and Development Institute (CARDI).

Albert was a friend of the Ministry. He contributed to the development and execution of several of our programmes, to include the Small Ruminant Production Project, for which he served as team lead. This project resulted in the diversification of the livestock sector. In addition, he formed part of the Ministry’s team which visited the United States last week for the selection of small ruminants and cattle for import. Albert was also no stranger to one of Jamaica’s most anticipated agricultural events, the Denbigh Agricultural Industrial and Food Show, as he was the longest-serving small ruminants judge.

His passing is an unquestionable loss to the agricultural fraternity. We extend our heartfelt condolences to Albert’s family and other loved ones in this time of bereavement. A man of the soil is a noble man; and that, he was.
