Addressing the inaugural UK Caribbean Trade and Investment Forum on Tuesday, November 28, 2023, Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries, and Mining, Floyd Green, took the lead in discussions centered around leveraging a substantial £60 million funding line for transformative investments in the Caribbean. The forum, hosted by the UK Foreign Office, serves as a strategic platform to explore opportunities for sustainable growth and collaboration between the UK and the Caribbean. Minister Green shared insights into investment prospects in agriculture, fisheries, and mining, underscoring the forum's commitment to unlocking the potential of the significant funding for regional development. The event, aimed at strengthening trade and investment ties between the UK and 15 Caribbean countries, is taking place at the Leonardo Conference Centre near Tower Hill in the City of London. It features senior government ministers from both regions, fostering dialogue on key issues. The event provides a unique opportunity for Caribbean stakeholders to narrate their stories to UK investors and supply chain members. Drawing inspiration from the success of a similar event for UK-West Francophone Africa, which resulted in over £1 billion in trade and investment activity in its first year, the current forum aims to establish a solid pipeline of over £1 billion in projects between the UK and the Caribbean. As part of this broader initiative, UK encourages companies to explore investments in Caribbean renewable energy and sustainable developments. To facilitate this, the forum includes a dedicated area for Jamaica to host 1-on-1 breakout meetings, promoting direct engagement between UK and Caribbean businesses. The UK Export Finance is committed to fostering increased collaboration between the UK and the Caribbean, with a specific focus on supporting qualifying projects through UK government debt-financing solutions. Minister Green, in addition to leading discussions, participated in a panel discussion outlining key projects in his portfolio sectors that would significantly contribute to the nation’s economy. =30=
