Persons requesting pest risk analysis services from the Plant Quarantine/Produce Inspection Branch of the Ministry of Agriculture and Fisheries are now required to do so through the Jamaica Single Window for Trade (JSWIFT) platform.

As a result, any importer/citizen who wants to import a plant or plant produce that has not been imported before or from a country from which Jamaica does not have a trading relationship; should make their request via the JSWIFT platform.

“This will improve the Branch’s efficiency in monitoring and responding to importers/citizens’ requests,” said Sanniel Wilson Graham, Chief Plant Quarantine/Produce Inspector.

To facilitate speedy and efficient processing of applications, persons who are not registered with JSWIFT are therefore urged to do so as quickly as possible.  

This is another of the Branch’s efforts to modernize its operations and allow for ease of business following its March 1, 2020 implementation of remote application and payment for permits with the movement of the PQ/PI Branch to the JSWIFT platform.

The Branch also expanded its use of electronic phytosanitary (ephyto) certification in 2020.
